Urge Your Representatives and Senators to Become a Complete Streets Cosigner
ASLA advocates are visiting Capitol Hill this week as part of ASLA's Mid-Year Meeting. They will meet with their legislators to discuss important transportation policies, namely Complete Streets legislation that was recently introduced in the House (H.R. 1443) by Representative Doris Matsui (CA) and in the Senate (S. 584) by Senator Tom Harkin (IA). You can make their in-person meetings have even greater impact by contacting your Representatives and Senators TODAY to support Complete Streets legislation.
Complete Streets policies ensure that the design and construction of future transportation projects incorporate the needs of all users, including drivers pedestrians, transit users, and bicyclists. Complete Streets improve pedestrian and cyclist safety, increase access to mass transit and support a healthier environment and lifestyle in communities across the country.
We need your continued support to add cosponsors for this legislation. As you know, Complete Streets make our communities safer, healthier and accessible for people of all ages and mobility. Please ask your Legislators to cosponsor Complete Streets legislation because it would:
-
Provide safe travel options that incorporate physical activity including walking, bicycling, or riding transit in communities across the country
-
Allow the one-third of Americans who do not drive, including many elderly and low income residents, safe access to get to work, school, shops and medical visits, and to take part in social, civic and volunteer activities.
-
Reduce greenhouse gas emissions, traffic congestion and costly road repairs by reducing our dependency on cars.
